What Is Possible?

Just when you think that there’s nothing that can be done. When you’ve reached the end of your rope. When you feel like you’ve exhausted all options. Sometimes something comes along and completely changes everything. Where you once believed you were subject to the machinations of the Universe and had all but resigned yourself to that fate, suddenly, you’re back in control. (Control being an illusion not withstanding) Here’s the tricky part… Those things are there all the time. There never is an end of the rope. There is no way to exhaust all of the options. There is always something that can be done. Sometimes it’s just a matter of thinking of or remembering what resources are available. They’ve been there all along, but were in the background or weren’t considered to be of any use in this particular situation. Other times, it requires coming up with some unique new way of utilizing existing resources. Resources that are right in front of your face, but for whatever reeason get overlooked. And still, at other times, it requires finding something completely out of the ordinary. Or rather, your ordinary. For someone else, it may be common place, but for you, it’s not something that you’re used to doing. Hence the addage of “thinking outside of the box.” Welcome to my box. My little corner of what I call reality. The Universe that I inhabbit and spend most of my days wandering around. It’s a nice place. I kind of like it. Recently, there have been things happening in my life that have started to expand it. It’s fun. Well, it’s mostly fun. Some of it can get a little stressful if I let it. I try not to let it. The interesting part is the out of the box stuff. It’s wild out there. Out there, there are no limits. I’m beginning to find this out and really, really, … I mean totally, completely, really realize that anything is possible. It’s a trip. What can I do? Anything. Yes, literally anything. We all can. That’s the best part. It’s not localized to a select group. Everyone is capable of remarkable things. Eh… I’m rambling. I’m going to go enjoy possibility. You should try it.

Choices

(REPRINT of original from 11/16/12)

Everything is a choice. Yes, everything. This one tends to get me in trouble. Well, not so much in trouble per say, but I get a lot of disagreement about it. People claim, “He didn’t choose to be hit by a drunk driver that ran a red light”, or “She didn’t choose to be raped”. Umm… Yeah, they did. Let me explain. I am not saying that the person chose to be victimized, not at all. But they did make choices that led to the events that occurred. The person who was hit by the drunk driver chose to be out that night. He chose to leave at the time that he did, and he chose the route that he took. He chose to put himself in the intersection at the time that the drunk driver ran the red light. Same thing with the woman who gets raped. No. It is not her fault. Not at all. However, she is accountable for the choices that she made. She chose to be where she chose to be when she chose to be there. That’s it. It’s not about blame. I’m not blaming the woman that was raped, or the driver who got hit. It’s about accountability. Accountability defined as, the ability to account for one’s own actions. The key words there being “one’s own”. No body else’s. The rapist and the drunk driver are also accountable for their actions. Ok. Drastic situations like drunk drivers and rape aside, seeing everything as a choice is a very powerful view point. It allows me to see the choices that I’ve made and the results of those choices. Knowing that doing the same thing yields the same results, if I want something different, I can make a different choice the next time. There are no right or wrong choices. Right and wrong are judgments. (That’s a whole different post) Choices just “are”. The driver did not make any choices that could be construed as “wrong”, and neither did the woman. They made choices based on past experience, (this is the fastest way home) world view, (I want to look pretty when I go out) and environment. (It’s a nice night out, I’m going to walk home) (The roads are dry and clean I can drive relaxed)…whatever. My point is that they just made normal choices that we all make every day. I’m willing to bet, however, that the next time, under the same circumstances, each of them will make a different choice. He will more than likely drive more cautiously in the future. She will be fearful, if not terrified, of ever walking home alone again. Choices are what run our lives. The choices that we make are what create the world that we live in. When we look back on events that have occurred and can remove judgment, we can see what our choices created. If we like the results, we can continue to make similar choices in similar circumstances. If we want a different result, we can choose to do something different the next time.

Are You Thrilled With The World We Live In?

As a matter of fact, I am. The human body is not “dirty”. Sex is not “dirty”. Religion made it that way. Religions have been controlling the masses for centuries, and they’re still doing it today. It is because of the attitudes created and perpetuated by religion that the US has such a warped view of the human body and sexuality. You can’t even post a picture that shows a woman’s nipple on FB without it getting taken down and putting yourself at the risk of being banned. People get offended by breastfeeding for goodness sake. News flash people, mammals breastfeed. It’s called “natural”. It wouldn’t matter one bit who was in which locker room if we didn’t teach kids that looking at each other’s naked bodies was taboo. Look at Native American and aboriginal societies. They have no problem with nudity. They also don’t have the sexual assault/violence problem that so-called civilized societies have. Wonder why that is. The laws that are based on conservative “values” are a joke. An 18 year old can die in a war fighting for our country but can’t get a drink of alcohol. He can have sex with his girlfriend, but not if she’s 17. …wait… that depends on the state. Morals and values don’t have to come from some thousands of years old book. Most are actually built in. Religions and their “morals” control people far more than the government does. If anything, the people, through the government, are attempting to break those controls. The SCOTUS didn’t make or change a law regarding marriage. They found the states’ laws that said marriage was between a man and a woman was unconstitutional. Gender refers to the state of being male or female with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. Gender has nothing to do with “parts”. Parts denote sex, which is having to do with reproductive function. “Auto mechanic is a man’s job”. “Homemaker is a woman’s job”. That’s gender. I know a lot of female mechanics and a lot of male homemakers. “Women wear skirts, men wear pants.” Really? Tell that to a Scotsman and see how fast he rips you a new one.

Men and women in the same bed on TV, swearing, kissing, bare (OMG) breasts… Its a society and a culture shaking off outdated religious doctrine that serves no purpose other than to control. The “sheep” are the ones that are following their “shepherd”, regardless of the name he goes by.

Conspiracy Theory

I used to think that conspiracy theorists were 20-40something men who still lived in their parent’s basement playing with computers and wearing tinfoil hats. They’re not though. They’re people that I know that I “thought” were intelligent. They’re paranoid as fuck!

This is frightening.

A New Chapter

Thursday, August 25, 2016 Posted by
…not so much a new chapter in life, but definitely a new chapter in writing/blogging. I had this site up once and didn’t do too much with it. Over time, it somehow became corrupted so I had to completely delete it and start from scratch. Where it goes from here is anybody’s guess. As for me, I guess you could call it a new chapter in “being”. All of my writings/postings from the past have been… well… not me. (So to speak) Back then, I was coming from the place of who I thought I was. No, wait, that’s not right. I was coming from the place of who I thought I was supposed to be. At the time, I didn’t realize how wrong I was. No, not wrong. Just different. I was pretending to be someone I wasn’t. I was ‘being’ and image. Not any particular image, but an image that I thought was the best image of me. Wrong again. Over time, I’ve come to realize that the best me that I can be, is the one that is authentically me. So here it comes. I have no idea what topics I’ll cover or what I’ll write about, but I will write. And the things that I write will be about me and how I see the world. Feel free to agree, disagree, comment, or ignore my rantings. It won’t bother me either way. With any luck, someone may find something useful here. If not… It’s an exercise in ‘being’ for me.
Namaste’.
